About the project
Our first project is to support the kids at The Children's Home at
Skobelevo. Skobelevo is a small village in Bulgaria, between the
town of Plovdiv and Haskovo. There are 47 homeless children
living in the institution, between 7 and 15 years old. Most of them
are without parents or have been neglected. Some of them have
parents that are in prison or in other correctional facilities. The
kids go to school to the local school at Skobelevo and have both
lunch and dinner back in the house. Here is
more information in Bulgarian about the children’s house provided
to us by its Director.
Our goal is (1) to provide those kids the opportunities to learn
computers, (2) to become familiar with basic software skills
including Windows, and MS Office and (3) to bring them closer to the
fascinating world of computer games and computer entertainment.
To achieve that we decided to equip one of the “class rooms”
in the house with two used computers as well as computer books and
other educational materials. According to the Director there is a
school teacher in Skobelevo who has volunteered to teach and train
the children.
Our friends, Rotaract
Club Plovdiv, will help us with the donation and will ensure the
proper spending and utilization of the proceeds. They will buy the
PCs and will network them. They will also provide free maintenance and
support.
The project has been successfully accomplished. A
group of fellow Rotarians from Plovdiv donated
the computers on April 25, 2004. Click on the pictures below
